The Company was founded in 1976 as "Project and Design" based in Thornaby, Teesside, England and specialised in bespoke local stairlift manufacturing. In 1989 Project and Design were purchased by the USA based stairlift manufacturer "Access Industries Inc", and renamed "Access Industries UK" in 1989.
To bring the history up to the present day, in 1999 Access Industries Inc and therefore also Access Industries UK were purchased by the global technology giant ThyssenKrupp. Now named Access Business Development Division to accentuate our belief on the business to business "dealer-only" supply ethos, we are part of ThyssenKrupp Accessibility, a business unit of the ThyssenKrupp Elevator segment.
