How Access BDD Helped Advanced Stairlifts With A Complex Stairlift Installation

By Bethany Ward on 5th May 2022

Here at Access BDD, we are committed to building successful partnerships and putting each of our partners at the heart of every one of our business decisions. We highlighted this excellent level of support when we provided a helping hand to one of our Fife-based partners.

We assisted Advanced Stairlifts (Scotland) Limited to complete a complex stairlift installation for a couple to enable them to stay in their family home, despite the wife being diagnosed with Parkinson’s. The work involved:

  • Fitting a stairlift to a staircase that covered 38 steps, which were steep and at times fanned over a total of 11.8 meters.
  • This staircase also featured internal curves over three floors, with six bends plus a short vertical start at the foot of the stairs.
  • Five charging points and three remote controls also needed to be provided during the installation of the stairlift.

Laurie Ewart, Director of Advanced Stairlifts (Scotland) Limited, praised the technology present on Access BDD stairlifts for making the project a success,

They commented: “This was certainly one of our more challenging installations. But we have been working with Access BDD for over 10 years, and we knew that together we would be able to come up with a solution – and I love a challenge.

“For example, there was a Grand Father clock on the staircase which we did not want to move. So, we incorporated Access BDD’s Advanced Swivel and Levelling technology (ASL), which enables the stairlift to rotate and swivel during travel so the stairlift could pass the clock before reverting to its normal travelling position.

“To ensure the final installation was as unobtrusive as possible, we also ordered the rail in dark brown so it would blend in with the finish of the stairs.”

As the customer was working on a budget, Advanced Stairlifts also chose one of our reconditioned stairlifts, a Flow 2A, from its existing stock for the project. The installation was completed by two engineers in just one day too, with minimal disruption to the family and home.

Reflecting on the experience and the service provided, customer Philip Hutton explains:“Following her diagnosis of Parkinson’s, my wife was finding the stairs in our home more and more of a challenge and we knew we would need a stairlift or we would have to move to a more accessible property.

“After reading about the Flow 2A in a Which? review, we knew this was the stairlift we wanted. We researched many suppliers and decided to go with Advanced Stairlifts as we were impressed with Laurie and the rest of the team from our first enquiry.

Mr Hutton was full of praise for the way Advanced Stairlifts looked into stairlift installation regulations and other technical matters during their work as well, adding: “This continued with the professional way in which they carried out the initial survey through to the installation itself, which left us in no doubt that we made the right choice! The stairlift is excellent and so easy to use.

“We can now relax in the knowledge that we will not need to move house, and my wife can now get around independently and with confidence. It also provides me with peace of mind if she is on her own. I would not hesitate in recommending Advanced Stairlifts and Access BDD to anyone looking to install a stairlift in their home.”
